YOGA for SPORTS

⚽️With #euro2020 and #Wimbledon in full swing a nation holds its breath! 🎾
On the field & off the field athletes embody a sense of CONFIDENCE.
They show young people how important it is to believe in themselves. As role models athletes can have incredible power to positively influence the next generation.

The ancient practice of yoga finds its way into almost every aspect of our lives, including sports. Athletic performance greatly benefits from physical and mental resilience.
YOGA as versatile tool for better body awareness, biomechanics, proprioception, muscular balance, respiratory capacity (breathing) and mental focus is incorporated in many disciplines, with great success.
In my yoga classes – especially in the kids yoga & teen yoga classes – I aim to design CURRENT, FUN and EDUCATIONAL classes.
Last week we put our thinking caps on and became football and tennis coaches!
For both disciplines, we brainstormed which parts of the body are stressed/strained the most, prone to muscular imbalances and misalignment and even injuries.
It was fascinating to see them taking pride in suggesting which yoga postures & breathing techniques would be most beneficial and suited for each discipline with the view of preventing injuries as well as assisting recovery after matches.
Through focus and balancing games we connected to our ‘team spirit’ and brought a state of calm back to our inner worlds.
The adult yoga classes explored UNFAMILIAR territories as part of the last class of the monthly ADVENTURE theme.
Through more circular movements we steered clear of the ‘trap’ of linear (black & white) movements which presented more opportunities to tap into the colourful facets of our being and reconnect to long-forgotten natural way of moving through time & space.
